Introducing Ian "Alf" Garnett - our advanced riding Instructor
Alf's Riding and IAM HISTORY
Motorcycling has been a passion for Alf and part of his life for over 40 years, riding everything from a very beaten up CZ 125 to his current BMW R1250 GSA.
He has toured all over the UK and Europe, covering hundreds of thousands of miles over the years.
In 2005, Alf started advanced rider training and passed the IAM Advanced Test in 2005, qualifying as an IAM Group Observer in the same year.
He then passed the Senior Observer Test in 2008 and become Chief Observer for the local IAM group in Harrogate.
Alf is an IAM Examiner, National Observer, a Masters Mentor, as well as holding a Distinction at IAM Masters.
ROSPA AND DVSA
Passed RosPA test at Gold in 2014 and 2015 passed the RoSPA Diploma in Advanced Motorcycle Instructor Training, the pinnacle of delivering advanced training in a civilian environment.
Returning to his native Yorkshire in 2014, Alf had been an Advanced Tutor for two RoSPA groups in the Yorkshire area for some 5 years, tutoring and mentoring many associates to achieve their goal of passing the RoSPA Advanced Test. He also provides and assist with, the training of group tutors, essentially training the trainer.
In 2019 Alf qualified to deliver the DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme in 2019. The Government backed scheme aims to help new post test riders to develop their skills and also for riders returning to riding after a break.
OTHER MOTORCYCLING INTERESTS
After a rigorous selection and training programme, Alf became a Motorcycle Tour Leader in 2016 for Motorrad Tours. He leads motorcyclists (and their pillions) across the UK and Europe, ensuring all the customers have the most fantastic of holidays possible on their bikes. A demanding but hugely rewarding role, it chimes well with his passion for delivering the highest levels of customer care.
Motorrad Tours Rider Academy: A new innovation for the 2021 season. Alf is proud to have been asked to assist with this superb initiative combining training with touring in response to customer requests to be ‘taught’ advanced riding or simply brush up their skills whilst on tour.
He is also licensed to deliver the National Speed Awareness Course.
